Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark (HFHGN) today announced it is partnering with “New Jersey for Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief” (NJ4PR) in a statewide effort to help the people of Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria. “Millions of American citizens in Puerto Rico are facing a crisis,” said Jeffrey J. Farrell, CEO, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Newark, which serves Essex, Hudson and Union counties. “Our ties to the Puerto Rican community in our service area run deep, all the way back to the founding of our affiliate in 1986.”

PERTH AMBOY, NJ – October 6, 2017 – Hurricane Maria made landfall in Puerto Rico on September 20, lashing the island with 30 hours of Category 5 winds. By September 21, following an emergency conference call with 33 New Jersey leaders, “New Jersey for Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief” was born. Fund leaders gathered with elected officials today in Perth Amboy to present the American Red Cross with a $10,000 check, vowing that much more is being raised for the relief charity, as well as the Salvation Army of Puerto Rico and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Puerto Rico.

Junior Maldonado for organizing this amazing benefit concert on October 15, 2017 at Lowe's Jersey Theater, 54 Journal Square Plaza, Jersey City! This awesome evening will feature headlining Salsa superstars Frankie Negron, Frankie Morales and Los Hermanos Moreno along with a lineup of local bands playing island music from 4 pm to 9pm. A minimum $25 donation is suggested and all proceeds will benefit NJ4PR!
